On Gonzaga's Postseason Guard Fatgiue
With the NCAA Tournament fast approaching, this Gonzaga fan has recognized a trend. For the past several years, our guards haven't performed in the tournament as well as they have in the regular season. Most glaring is the depsarity in shooting percentages. Here's a breakdown of what I have wasted my morning researching:
Career:
| Player | Games | FG% | 3-PT FG% | PPG/APG |
| Blake Stepp | 126 | 41.7 | 38.1 | 13.0/5.1 |
| Dan Dickau (with Gonzaga) | 56 | 45.8 | 46.5 | 20.1/5.3 |
| Matt Santangelo | 131 | 40.4 | 38.8 | 13.8/5.1 |
Postseason:
| Player | Games | FG% | 3-PT FG% | PPG |
| Blake Stepp | 8 | 24.5 | 16.4 | 10.6/5.1 |
| Dan Dickau | 4 | 38.2 | 42.9 | 23.5/3.8 |
| Matt Santangelo | 7 | 35.9 | 41.0 | 14.3/5.6 |
Possible causes:
- Gonzaga's players have a tough time gearing up for competition again after the lax WCC conference schedule.
- Gonzaga relies on too few players to shoulder the scoring load, creating fatigue at the end of the season.
