Bienvenido a Madrid

A funny thing happened to me in Madrid. I went to the Real Madrid vs. MLS Select soccer game on Tuesday night. Afterwards, I ended up drinking in a bar with a remarkable similarity to Earl's (even down to the four-dollar long islands) with an awesome group of Aussies.

I happened to look over at one point and see the Twins-White Sox game on NASN. Freddy vs. Johan. 0-0. I looked closer and I saw that one Mr. Freddy Garcia was working on a no-no.

I had no choice to turn completely anti-social and eschew the group in favor of the game. I even waved away the girl that looked like Kylie Minogue.

And the funny thing - I don't regret the decision I made at all. Freddy gave up the no-no in the eighth to a solo shot from Jacque Jones. Nathan came on in the ninth and shut 'em down. 1-0, Twins win. A great game.

I guess it came down to what I needed more at that moment, what my soul thirsted for. It was not debauchery. I have lived that life.

I watched baseball. And it was good.

Winner, I agree with Lawson. CTA, you should name your second child Henry Cotto.

You guys are right, as always. In retrospect, I should have found a way to combine the two. I'm trying to come up with a clever "box" joke but I got nuthin.

Regarding Felix Fermin, any guesses to what his average was in the strike-shortened '94 season?

.317

Not bad for a career .259 hitter, which is incidentally .100 points higher than the average for Mariner free agents. It should also be noted that the Felix The Cat was a free swinger and only walked 11 times in '94, for an OBP of .338.

Also worth mentioning:

I looked into it a little further, and he was part of the following trade: FF and Reggie Jefferson from the Indians in return for, you guessed it - Frank Stallone! No, Omar Vizquel.

Little O went on to score 80 or more runs for the next eight consecutive seasons and saved half that with his glove.

Felix was released after the '96 season (to make room for A-Rod) and Jefferson was granted free agency after 1994 and signed with the BoSox, where he hit .347 (!) in 1996.
